Romance in the air! This 45-frame scene from Ratatouille (Pixar Animation Studios) caught my eye with the beautifully warm, fall colors of Paris and late afternoon-early evening sunlight.Ratatouille was the first film I saw in theaters when I moved to Italy to live La Dolce Vita. I thought it was apropos to set my scene in an Italian piazza.

When working in the studio pipeline, all lighters must adhere to a color key and get the colors spot on in order to keep continuity in the sequence. In my case, the reference was my color key.

At one point the scene had lost the sun. Something was just 'off.' By stripping back the lighting to nothing and starting again, I was able to not only get back the sunshine, but also have a more effective lighted scene with half the light rig.

This was a more complex lighting rig set up than the projects I had previously worked on with this one including not only character but environment and prop lighting as well.
For this project, I wanted to push myself even further. Adding to my arsenal of knowledge that goes above and beyond lighting, I added the following: - rigs to pose with two of the three interacting,
- grooming with Xgen and styling hair for male and female, and
- remodeling some geo to fit my needs as well as creating new textures.
