Next on my to-do is an environment scene. Integrating what I have learned thus far, this lovely scene, based on Pixar's Luca, was the perfect one to show off day and night lighting, animating from darkness to daybreak and utilizing the new knowledge of backplates.
That, and it brought me back to my days in Vernazza and Corniglia, Cinque Terre, Italia - all thanks to the breathtaking assets by Luise Rolle.

Putting together a scene, it is important to understand it from different angles in order to get perspective and scale correct.
By gathering reference from the film and real life, recreating the inspired shot became simpler.
Something I love is the challenge of matching the reference to the closest degree possible.
A slider between my scene and the original is great way to check myself. It is a much more precise way to note the differences and know where I still need to work.
In version 26, a couple things still catch my eye:
>need to tone down the volumetrics
>the boat on the shore needs some light adjustments
>lights in the archways could use some more warmth
>the roofs are not capturing the moonlight quite enough

To keep myself on track with my deadline, I often participate in lighting challenges. Though not polished, I submit anyway and keep working. I guess I am doing something right - my piece won!
